What Do They Do?

Types of Rackmount Keyboards

A rackmount keyboard drawer is a single unit housing a keyboard and a touchpad or trackball mouse in one self-contained unit. These rack mount keyboards usually come standard as part of a KVM unit, and are used because they lower the space requirement to get one of these systems set up. Some rack keyboards come with integrated KVM switches allowing them to interface with a wide number of different interfaces without having to depend on an external KVM switch.

Connections

The deep installation allows for the entire 1U to be used for trackball and keyboard depth. Both of these designs add to the low profile layout associated with machines of this type. Icron USB Ranger 2204 for Web Cam extension application

As part of a recent project for one of our customers we were tasked with installing USB extenders at a new facility for multiple systems.  We initially purchased several less expensive 4 port USB extender hubs for the project.  Though the product came with a driver CD they actually worked with just plug and play on our Windows 7 laptops.  The problem we ran into was that they did not support our USB web cams which were the primary devices we needed for the project.

I called and talked to KVMSwitchTech’s support department.  It turned out that there is a known issue with many USB extenders and web cameras.  They recommended replacing the devices with the 00-00256 Icron USB Ranger.  The 2204 USB Rangers are the only extenders I have found that actually support isochronous data transfer.  After receiving the new extenders we were able to once again use the plug and play functionality of USB to instantly connect and recognize the extender as well as all of our remote USB devices including, finally, the web cameras.  The moral of the story is that not all USB 2.0 extenders are created equal and it’s important to know what device types you are using.  And a special thanks to the guys at KVMSwitchTech who actually spent the time to help sort out the problem.

Cat5 USB Extender Solutions for Different Applications

Cat5 USB Extenders allow you to extend USB devices up to 330ft away over ordinary Cat5e/Cat6/Cat7 cables. Ideal use is with USB printers, scanners, keyboards, mice, hard drives, and other 1.1 and 2.0 USB devices.
